  • The AI Revolution and the Shifting Sands of IT Job Security: Why IT-DAY is More Crucial Than Ever

In the early 2010s, if you were a computer science student at DTU, ITU, or AU, you weren't just a student—you were a "unicorn." Recruiters would practically wait outside your lecture halls with signed contracts before you’d even finished your first semester. But in 2026, the narrative has shifted. The rise of LLMs and specialized AI coding agents has turned the Danish "talent shortage" into a "talent filter." If you’re an IT profile in Denmark today, you aren’t just competing with your classmates; you’re competing with a tool that doesn’t join a fagforening, doesn’t demand frokostordning, and works 24/7. Here is the reality of the shift in job security for the Danish IT sector. For nearly two decades, the career path for a software developer in Denmark was a predictable, high-speed escalator. If you could write a semi-functional React component by your second semester at ITU , DTU , or AU , you weren’t just looking for a job—you were being headhunted. Companies would throw signing bonuses at students, offer high salaries for studiejob , and sometimes literally pay for taxis to get you to the office. But the wind has changed. The rise of Generative AI (GPT, Claude, Gemini, Cursor) has disrupted the "junior dev" market and rewritten the rules of job security. If you’re a "software person," the question is no longer if  the industry is changing, but whether you are changing fast enough to stay in it. The Death of the "Human Boilerplate" In the past, junior developers were hired to handle the "grunt work"—writing unit tests, basic migrations, and boilerplate code. It was a trade: the company got cheaper labor for simpler tasks, and the junior got the experience needed to become a senior. As Brian Jenney (2024)  notes, AI is now exceptionally good at that 80% of mundane work. While some argue that AI doesn't replace a developer because it can't join a frokost  meeting or understand complex Danish business context, the economic reality is harsher. If a senior developer using AI can now do the work of three juniors, the "first-semester headhunting" phenomenon disappears. Why the "Replaceable" Tag is Dangerous in IT job Security We are seeing a "Tale of Two Realities." On one hand, some experts argue that firing juniors is a strategic mistake because today’s juniors are tomorrow’s architects ( BBC, 2024 ). On the other hand, the Danish market is tightening. Research from Københavns Universitet (2025)  indicates that AI is creating clear winners and losers, with entry-level candidates increasingly being pushed out as their primary tasks are automated ( Uniavisen, 2025 ). The threshold for being "useful" has shifted. If your value is solely in translating a ticket into code, you are now competing with a tool that costs $20 a month and never sleeps ( IT-Jobbank, 2024 ). Furthermore, Finansforbundet (2025)  reports that this shift is already pressing the job satisfaction and mental well-being of IT employees who feel the "AI-breath" on their necks. The Shift: From Coding to Validation The true danger isn't AI replacing people, but companies making the strategic mistake of firing their "human supervision." AI "hallucinates"—it produces code that looks perfect but may fail under the pressure of Danish security standards and the EU AI Act ( IDA, 2024 ). The Future Danish IT Profile: The Architect/Validator:  You won't be paid to write code; you'll be paid to verify  it. As Computerworld (2024)  analyzes, you must make an effort to avoid being left behind by mastering validation. The Context King:  AI doesn't know why your specific client (e.g., a Danish bank or public agency) hates a certain UI pattern. Human context is the new gold ( Unit-IT, 2024 ). Getting Out There: Networking is the New Technical Skill When every applicant can produce a perfect-looking GitHub portfolio using AI, "proof of work" loses its luster. In a small, high-trust market like Denmark, networking is your new survival kit. Meetups & Hackathons:  Physical presence is your signal in a digital space flooded with AI noise. Show that you can solve problems with people . Soft Skills are Hard Skills:  Communication and empathy are the only things GPT-4 can't simulate in a high-stakes board meeting at a C25 company. End of the Lone Wolf:  The era of the "anti-social genius coder" is fading. The future belongs to the "Technical Orchestrator." The Verdict Is the IT dream over? No. But as SDU  researchers point out, the question isn't whether robots steal our jobs, but how we adapt to the new tools ( SDU, 2024 ). The "easy mode" has been disabled. The escalator has stopped. It’s time to start climbing. References BBC (2024).  AI is taking over tech jobs. • Employer Branding with IT-DAY – Stay Visible Between Hiring Cycles

Not every year is a hiring year. For many companies, recruitment happens in waves. That does not mean visibility should disappear in the meantime. At IT-DAY, we work with many companies that are not actively recruiting right now, but still want to stay relevant and recognisable among IT-Profiles, or other companies for that matter. Employer branding in these periods is about presence, familiarity and timing – so you are not starting from zero when the next hiring need arises. Below is an overview of how companies use IT-DAY’s employer branding services without participating in our career fairs. Why employer branding matters when you are not hiring IT-Profiles rarely start their job search from scratch. They gravitate towards companies they already know, recognise or associate with something positive. When you stay visible between hiring cycles, you: Build familiarity before the need arises Reduce time-to-hire later Attract warmer and more qualified candidates Strengthen your company’s position in a competitive IT talent market Employer branding is not about pushing job ads – it is about being present when people are paying attention. Social media exposure with IT-DAY IT-DAY operates a set of established social media channels focused on IT education, careers and the IT industry in Denmark. Through targeted content, we help companies stay visible across: LinkedIn Instagram Facebook YouTube etc. Across platforms, our channels generate around 2 million views annually , among IT-Profiles and companies alike. Visibility towards both candidates and companies While many channels focus on IT-Profiles, LinkedIn plays a slightly different role. Our LinkedIn audience includes: HR professionals Talent acquisition specialists Team leads and IT managers Company representatives active in recruitment and employer branding This makes LinkedIn particularly relevant if your goal is not only candidate visibility, but also brand presence within the IT and HR ecosystem. What companies typically share Companies use our channels in different ways, depending on where they are in their hiring cycle. Common examples include: Short introductions to the company and what you work with Insights into your tech stack or development projects Culture, team setup and ways of working How you approach IT, learning or career development Highlights from previous IT-DAY participation The focus is on clarity and relevance – not polished recruitment campaigns. Email marketing to IT-Profiles In addition to social media, companies can be featured in IT-DAY’s email marketing. Our newsletters reach 15.000+ IT-Profiles across Denmark  with consistently high open rates. This makes email a strong channel for: Deeper storytelling than social media allows Reaching IT-Profiles who are passive but attentive Reinforcing brand recognition over time Email campaigns are often used as a complement to social media visibility, rather than a standalone activity. Example 1 – Email marketing strategy (Company X) Context: Company X is not actively hiring right now.Goal: Stay recognisable among IT-Profiles so future recruitment starts warm, not cold. Suggested schedule (6 months) Email 1 – Introduction & positioning Timing:  Month 1 Focus:  Who Company X is and what they work with Content examples: Short intro to Company X and their core products What type of IT problems they solve Who they typically hire when recruitment is active Purpose:  Awareness and name recognition Email 2 – Tech & ways of working Timing:  Month 3 Focus:  How Company X works with IT Content examples: Tech stack overview Development process or team setup How IT-Profiles grow and learn internally Purpose:  Build credibility and relevance Email 3 – Culture & future opportunities Timing:  Month 5 Focus:  Culture and future outlook Content examples: Team culture and values Career paths and learning opportunities “We’re not hiring right now – but we will be again” Purpose:  Top-of-mind presence before next hiring cycle Why this works Low frequency. No inbox fatigue Content-driven, not job-driven Builds familiarity over time Easy to scale when hiring resumes A flexible alternative to fair participation Employer branding through IT-DAY is often used as: A bridge between two hiring periods A low-effort way to maintain presence A test before committing to fair participation again There is no requirement to participate in IT-DAY fairs to use these services. When recruitment becomes relevant again When hiring needs return, companies that have stayed visible typically experience: Higher recognition at the fair More relevant conversations Shorter ramp-up time in recruitment Employer branding is rarely about immediate results – it is about being remembered when it matters. If you are curious about how this could work for your company, you are always welcome to reach out. If not, we look forward to reconnecting when the timing is right.

  • Employer Branding at Job Fairs: Why Participation Still Matters – Even If You’re Not Hiring

Discover how companies benefit from IT job fairs even without open positions. Strengthen your employer branding and attract future talent by being visible and honest. Employer Branding whilst not Hiring When people think of job fairs, they often think "recruitment." But at IT-DAY , we’ve seen a powerful trend: companies with no open roles  participate—and reap the benefits. Why? Because these events are just as much about employer branding  as they are about hiring. If your company wants to be top of mind for the next generation of tech professionals, showing up and showing off matters —even when you’re not actively recruiting. Stay Visible to Future Talent It’s no secret: the tech talent market is competitive. And while many attendees at IT fairs are job seekers, just as many are simply curious. They want to know: Who’s building what? What’s the culture like at your company? What kind of projects and technologies are you working on? Your presence signals that you're a company worth watching—even if your hiring pipeline is currently paused. This type of visibility builds long-term awareness and interest . How to Brand Without Hiring You can absolutely join a job fair with a branding-first approach . Just follow these best practices to make your presence clear and meaningful: ✅ Be Transparent in Your Hyper Presentation Use your hyper presentation to clearly state  that you’re not hiring right now, but you’re here to connect and inspire. This sets expectations and attracts the right kind of attention. ✅ Use the Email Feature Before the fair, use the email campaign feature  to tell participants who you are, why you’re joining, and what they can expect from your booth—even if it’s not job offers. ✅ Highlight It Visually at the Fair Make it clear at your booth: signage like “We’re not hiring right now—but we’re here to connect” ensures you draw in genuinely curious visitors and not just job hunters. ✅ Own the Conversation Your team should feel confident saying: “We’re not recruiting today, but we’re here to meet talented people and share what we’re building.” This honesty creates a more open and memorable conversation—and helps build trust . The Payoff: Brand Loyalty and Talent Pipelining Participating in this way positions your company as forward-thinking, stable, and engaged . You’re not just another brand handing out flyers—you’re a serious player in the tech ecosystem. Over time, this approach builds a strong passive talent pipeline . Candidates remember who made an impression, not just who had job openings. And when you do open up for hiring? You’re already on their radar. You also benefit from brand exposure  to future clients, tech collaborators, and stakeholders who notice which companies are active in the community. Conclusion: Be Seen, Be Remembered Job fairs aren’t just for recruitment—they’re a stage for strategic employer branding . Participating without open roles is not only acceptable—it’s smart. Wave your flag. Be visible. Be memorable.  Because the best candidates don’t just want a job. They want to work for a company they know, trust, and admire.

  • The shortage of IT skills is real – and it's getting worse

TL;DR: 1) Talent shortage is growing: Denmark currently lacks 7.000+ IT specialists. That number could reach 22.000 within six years. 2) Missed hires: 32% of companies have had to give up filling IT roles due to a lack of qualified applicants. 3) Top concern: 64% of Danish companies see the IT talent gap as their biggest barrier to growth in 2024. 4) Action points: Strengthen employer branding, connect directly with IT-profiles, and focus on long-term talent engagement. In our recent blog post " Recruiting During Downturns: New Data Suggests We May Be Turning a Corner " we looked at Voxmeter's data on the rise in short term hiring suggesting that an upswing could be on the way. Now, new insights from IT-Branchen’s IT-Barometer  shed light on an urgent challenge: the growing shortage of IT talent in Denmark —and what companies can do to stay ahead in a market defined by scarcity rather than slowdown. Fresh insights show just how serious the IT recruitment challenge is becoming In the latest IT-Barometer 64% of Danish companies cite the lack of qualified IT talent as the number one obstacle to growth in 2024 . It’s not just about hard-to-fill roles—it's a structural issue. Right now, Denmark is missing more than 7.000 IT specialists , and that number is expected to triple to 22.000 within six years. On top of that, nearly 1 in 3 companies had to drop recruitment efforts  in the past year because they couldn’t find suitable candidates. The Real-World Impact on Hiring For most HR teams and hiring managers, this shows up as longer time-to-fill, fewer applicants, and rising competition—especially for roles in development, cloud, AI, and cybersecurity. But while the challenge is real, there are ways to stay ahead. What You Can Do Get visible : Companies that invest in their employer brand now will stand out—especially in an environment where IT-profiles are selective and often passive. Meet talent early : Waiting until you have an open role is often too late. Engaging with IT-profiles at fairs (like IT-DAY ) or through educational partnerships builds long-term trust. Think pipeline, not position : The companies that build relationships today will have the strongest hiring pipelines tomorrow. Looking Ahead For IT recruitment specifically, this period could represent a prime opportunity to secure top talent ahead of the competition —especially for companies that act early, build visibility, and take long-term talent engagement seriously. Want to stay ahead of the IT talent curve? We’re here to help. Reach out via www.itday.dk  and let’s talk about how we can support your recruitment strategy in a time where IT-skills are in high demand. References IT-Branchen: IT-Barometer 2024
